It is time to have some virtual fun again, joining my dear Australian friend Celia in her series “In My Kitchen“. Every month she publishes a post showing what is going on in her place, and many food bloggers do the same. I wish I could play more often, but better sometimes than never, right? So, let me invite you for a little peek into our home…
In our kitchen…
A collection of glass containers of several sizes and shapes, to bring some sense of peace and beauty to our pantry…
Here they are, fulfilling their purpose…
In our kitchen….
A bottle of Portuguese olive oil I am very fond of… must be my background? Vovó Florinda (my late Grandma) would be happy to see it, I am sure. It is fruity, with a very intense flavor. I use it sparingly, and savor each drop. Excellent on thick slices of juicy tomatoes.
In our kitchen…
Two delicious teas I recently found. Have I mentioned I am crazy for saffron? The saffron flavor is not too strong, just right. Not sure which one is my favorite, sometimes I am happy, sometimes more mellow…
In our kitchen…
A very special bottle of tequila (Anejo). Phil is turning into a serious tequila connoisseur, so I decided to give him a product recommended by the one and only Marcela Valladolid. According to him (and a few guests who tried shots) it is very smooth and complex.
In our kitchen…
A special mustard I found at a farmer’s market in town, cilantro-jalapeno flavored. Sounded too good to resist… 😉
In our kitchen…
The most beautiful fresh dill I’ve ever had! A gift from a colleague at KSU, he harvested it just half an hour earlier. Per his advice, the best way to preserve it is not by drying, but freezing. So now I am a proud owner of frozen dill, ready to use.
In our kitchen….
Buck, hoping that the Law of Gravity will act on slices of sourdough bread a little too far from his paws.
And finally, in our kitchen…. (click to enlarge)
If you have a blog and want to participate of the IMK series, write a post and link to Celia’s blog. Easy as pie!

I have a fondness for lovely glass jars as well though mine don’t get put to such interesting contents. 🙂 Anejo tequila isn’t something I’ve ever tried but I think a small glass would be a treat.

I think tequila is an acquired taste – I actually like it very much, but lately the only thing I’ve been drinking is white wine – almost exclusively Portuguese green wine, it’s light and has a slight sparkling feel.

I do think we have too much stuff in our pantry, but I do get to use it, slowly but surely 😉

I can just imagine how vibrantly yellow that saffron infused tea must be! What a wonderful look around your kitchen, great post 🙂

Yes, the saffron tea has a beautiful color = maybe I should have brewed a cup and posted a photo… oh, well… there’s always next time, right?

The fresh dill is beautiful, and freezing it works wonderfully well. You’ll use it for many things and Persian recipes use dill fairly frequently. So far I’ve resisted “The New Persian Kitchen” but I may break down yet!
Love the glass jars and the olive oil, too. Your pantry is beautifully organized, Sally. I’m envious. 🙂

Marcia, things will be disorganized very very soon – we are starting a kitchen renovation this week… gas line will be installed tomorrow, and that will set the wheels in motion… (I am taking a few deep breaths…)

Oh, my. That’s no fun but the end result will be worth it, I know. You’ve wanted to do this as long as you’ve been there and it’s more than a year now. You’ll post pictures after, I hope. Keep on taking deep breaths. We’ve been though kitchen renovations. Sigh.

Nice!! Just got back from Sedona and Flagstaff. Daughter and I ate at a wonderful place called Elote. If you ever get to Sedona, you have to try it. They don’t take reservations, so the line to get in is big!
Hope your 4th was good.

Hello, Carole! Nice to “see’ you here! We actually went to Elote a couple of times – Phil’s sister knows the owner (and has that cookbook) so she made sure we stopped by. Great restaurant indeed!

Oh, forgot the Tequila! I will have to add that to my list. 🙂 Good tequila is like good brandy!

Not everyone likes tequila, but you and Phil are definitely on the same team 😉

WIth all of the goodies in your bottles and on your pantry shelves, my eyes were attracted to, and remained focused upon, the gemelli. Imagine that! Dill grows wild in my neighbor’s yard and I’ve plastic bags full of it in my freezer. I don’t think I’ll ever use it all but she won’t take “no” for an answer.
Good luck with the renovation, Sally. Hang in there! 🙂

John, “Hang in there” should be my middle name… 🙂
I am VERY fond of gemelli, and by now that bag is gone… I’ve been taking photos for the In My Kitchen series for a while now, so in a way this post is a nice flash back for me. The dried figs inside the glasses are gone too… the pistachios… the couscous is gone and replenished…. the cycle of the pantry… 😉

I should have known you knew that restaurant! I had the pork cheeks! Excellent. Unless it was recommended, one would drive right by it. I almost bought the cookbook as the chef was signing them and came out and talked with patrons. There is an interesting story as to why he was in Mexico for 15 years! I’ll tell you sometime. 🙂

Hummmm…. I gotta ask Phil’s sister if she knows… but I’m all ears whenever you want to spill the beans 😉

I’m a big fan of glass jars for organizing (generally, the more mismatched the better!) — I’ve never come across cilantro jalapeno mustard before; what a great combination. So smart freezing a portion of the fresh dill – what a super gift you received. Harvested a half hour before — doesn’t get fresher than that! Bet you enjoyed some right off the top. Your furry friends always make me smile Sally — Mr. Buck and the final sequence too! :). Priceless.

It was the first time I saw a mustard with these flavors – could not resist. I am usually a purist when it comes to mustards, but c’mon, cilantro and jalapeno is not something a person should pass! 😉

Love your pantry ideas and ADORE that portuguese green wine, so summer! But i have never found it out on the prairies, i shall have to go back to portugal where we used to drink it all the time! c

Ha! We are really lucky here… one of the wine stores in town never seems to run out of the wine I like the most, called “Praia” (praia = beach) – I love it! It is really light and fresh… Not sure what is wrong with me, but I lost my taste for red wine, all of a sudden they all taste “funky” to me. Haven’t had a red wine in many many months!

Delightful photo of Buck lurking in the background of the bread. I’m also very envious of your pantry which seems to have some sort of pull out drawer system. Now I’m planning….

That pull out drawer is awesome! I have pictures of it “in action” in another post a few months back

Hi- I love your glass jars- I am constantly looking for odd shapes and sizes- but then I find them and I give them away filled with something from the kitchen. I tend to give away that which I love best!
Your pantry is filled with wonderful ingredients for lovely creations. Yum!
(I would like to see a cup of that tea brewed- the one with the rooibos-mmm- sounds delicious!)

Sally, you know my relationship with tequila.. 🙂 Thank you so much for playing darling, such a treat to peek into your kitchen! It’s all very well organised and neat with your glass jars! I’ve never seen Portuguese olive oil before – I’ll have to look out for it – and your bread looks superb as always. And how cute is that last photo! xxx

I am going to look for Portuguese olive oil too! I tend to buy the same old olive oil every time, unless I go to one of the farmer’s markets where I get a lovely Greek one that I like. I love the last sequence of photos, such a sweetheart 🙂 And I wish I was as tidy as you too !
